031: A Temporary Victory
by LouM on January 29, 2007 at 12:00 amNow, I provide context for yesterday`s disappointing setback, a filler comic if you will. After his struggles, our protagonist finally discovers his true power. Protagonist, pssh. I for one call him a hero, though some might call him a Hero. Others, of course, might call him HERO!!Z0r!!, but that`s becuase we`re on the Internet and people are stupid.
That being said, we`re moving and shaking now.
I hope, if any of you were in the market for a new computer, you got your machine while they came with XP. Today (well, the 30th as I write) is the official launch day for Vista for us average consumers. It`s pretty much established that you won`t get a machine from a major builder with XP at this point. It remains to be seen what the actual retail price of Vista will be, but preliminary appearances of OEM versions of Ultimate from reputable eBay sellers and second-string retailers, presumably bundled with garbage hardware to satisfy the term “OEM”, indicate you might not have to spend a lot to pick up a license.
However, all is not well in Mudville: A cursory look at www.dell.com shows an increase of, very roughly, $70 in computer costs for computers with Home Premium, but it`s always hard to judge what a computer goes for from Dell with all their rebate, prebates, free upgrades and other confusions.
One thing`s for sure: For better or for worse, the future of Windows is here. I am a slight bit jealous of my friends who now own Macs and laptops shipped with soem flavor of Linux.
029: Don`t Forget the Sewage
by LouM on January 24, 2007 at 12:00 amI`m sure I could have found many other things to say about Jersey, most of them not as nice. I`ll just take the cheap shots and move on, though.
Don`t forget to take your credit for theĀ Federal Excise Tax on phone use. That`s a free $30-$60, just for being an American. Make room in your pocketbook for the $15,000 across-the-board health care deduction that may be coming your way, too.
The first product, rushed, with the charcters inked on the tablet. The rest was done with a mouse in Photochop Elements. I seriously missed the boat when I didn`t get some Photoshop training over the New Year`s Even mass pilgrimage of friends. The inking went pretty well, but it was all sorts of wrong when I moved it to the comic itself. I have learned a lot already, but I can see we`ll be moving back to the hours upon hours for each comic again. *sigh*
Also, Windows Vista does not seem to like Pen mode on my Wacom Graphire 4. Mouse mode only, which can make things a bit odd.
