Welcome!

Welcome, all!  This is still under development (hence the dev.yawcomic.com).  If anything looks out of place, if anything is missing or if anything doesn’t look good, I’m working on it.  The main site will still be updated until the official move, which will be in the indeterminate future if it ever happens.  We’ll see how much I like this.

However, if something doesn’t work, or something looks really bad (images that spill outside of columns, etc.) let me know so I can fix them.  Also, tell me what browser you’re using.  That makes a big difference in crafting CSS.

Welcome, and enjoy.

This is AWESOME!!!

Three minutes to add a new comic.  This used to take me ten to fifteen!  Auto-updating RSS, Archives, tags now work, I’m sure searching is in here somewhere…Fantastic!  This will probably be deployed when I get it properly populated, themed and tweaked.

250! Awesome! Thank you!

I know, no screencaps of the animations I’ve been working on for the game. That project seems to have stalled for the time being. It’s not dead, and if it dies the animations will live on elsewhere. However, that has given me time to work on some other things. In celebration of the 250th strip, shoot me an e-mail and I’ll let you in on a neat little preview in the coming few days. Think of it as a thank you. You guys have been great to me, and that’s what keeps the strip going.

No update Thursday, 12 Feb

No strip for Thursday. Next scheduled strip on Sunday. I’ve got a lot of financial stuff to straighten out and I have to get a lot of work done on graphics for a game, so I need the extra time. If the planets align, perhaps I can throw something up on Saturday, but don’t hold yer breath.

Going live in the near future!

Good news, everyone!  We’re going live in the near future!  That’s right:  Soon www.yawcomic.com will point directly to the Comicpress site.  If you’ve subscribed to the RSS feed here, I’ll make another post when the switch begins so you know to re-subscribe.

Also, last call for opinions on the site.  It will go live with an incomplete archive of strips, and I will get the backlog into the system as time allows.  A link will fall back to the old site, which will be housed on a yawcomic subdomain until all of the articles, galleries, pages and archived strips are ported over, which admittedly could be a while.

Send me any and all opinions as soon as possible so I have time to pore over them and come up with an implementation if necessary.  Thanks, all!

Update on Deployment

First off, regular updates will resume Tuesday 3 March.  Short of a day-long incident, I will not miss this one.  I have two completed comics ready to go.

Next, I plan on pushing this new site into production by the 15th of March.    I have already done a soft rollout, and plan on introducing new people to the site over the next week.  I still have some gallery code to straighten out and some extra pages to add.  If you have any other things you notice that need tweaking or fixing, please point them out at your earliest convenience.  It takes time to fix these things.

Enjoy the two gallery postings as an act of contrition.  I haven’t felt particularly “comicky” the past week, and doing some watercolors and working on the game have really gotten me back into the art mood.

Extra! Extra! Ugly Hill Ends!

Paul Southworth has posted the last Ugly Hill ever!  Send him hate mail and tell him to get on some other project, ASAP!  That, or tell him to play more Left 4 Dead now that he’s not drawing…

And Paul!  If you want to sell that Cintiq, I know where you can find a buyer.  Hint, hint!

The old site is dead! Long live the new site!

I have officially upgraded to Comicpress!  There are a few last tweaks I will be installing over the next few days, and some URLs may move, so don’t go around updating all your links just yet.  Most of the comics are not yet uploaded to the new engine, so I will maintain links to the old site for posterity until that is complete, but the old site will no longer be updated.  It is strictly for archival purposes until all of the content is moved over.

I am looking for three types of comments:  (1) Anything that doesn’t look good, or can be improved graphically, (2) Anything that is functionally broken, and (3) Anything you can think of that will help me make a better, more accessible site.  Don’t write in about the gallery content yet, I am still tweaking that code and I know it doesn’t work right.  That being said,  I also accept compliments.

Enjoy!  Over the next few days I’ll get the redirects and such straightened out, and let you know when the URLs are set for good.  Thanks for sticking with me.

Lou

Temporary Hold

The comic is temporary on hold through the rest of March due to illness in the family. Expect a normal schedule to return for the Thursday 2 April update at this point, but stay tuned for more details. If time allows, I will try to drop bits of entertainment in the interim but no promises.

Sorry for the delay, scheduled return 2 April

Sorry for the delay, all. I received word back when I put the comic on hold that my grandmother had been admitted to the hospital for pneumonia. Turns out, it was a heart attack. She died a week later, though not before I got to spend a few days with her in the CCU. My family is small but relatively close, so we all made our way to New York to settle affairs and help get things in order. I’m back home now, trying to get my household and work schedule back in order, but I don’t anticipate being later than 2 April as I originally planned.  I will try to have the site structured appropriately by then, so expect some ups and downs over the next 72 hours.

That being said, there is still unfinished business with which I may need to help. Should that happen, my weekends will be entirely shot. Keep in mind that for the next two months or so, I may skip a Sunday update without warning. There’s not many of us in the family, so at times like this all hands need to be on deck (if you’ll allow me to pilfer a maritime metaphor).

I hope y’all understand, and that this doesn’t keep you from checking in or subscribing to the RSS feed. This has always been a free time hobby for me, and right now free time will be at a premium.
